Welcome to Vocayoga
Hi! I’m Vivienne. If you’ve wanted to sing or learn to sing for a long time but feel nervous about it, this is for you…. if you already sing but want to get back into it, this is also for you! If you do a bit of yoga already, great, if not you will learn basic yoga and breathing techniques all designed to free your voice but which are all health-giving and focussed on the body’s meridians (energy pathways) so it’s a win-win!
I am well aware that voice-based classes can be anxiety-inducing so if it feels too terrifying to come to a class straight away you can contact me at shawlandsmusicschool.co.uk for a vocal lesson to let me show you just how easy it is to produce your voice …the difficult bit is giving yourself permission, especially as, in the case of most people, someone has criticised you in the past. I am here to help with this, in fact it’s become my speciality. Relaxation is the key and that is why Vocayoga has been incredibly helpful for so many people over the past two years since I have been doing it. This has taken me on a journey to learn EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique. which I sometimes call upon to help people get past difficult “blocks”, and sound healing via my beautiful crystal singing pyramid. Sound journeys are now part of my classes and workshops, combined with yoga nidra and chakra healing meditations.
I myself suffered from horrendous ‘stage fright’ at one point when starting out as a singer and although I still get nervous when performing (even doing a workshop!) it’s the breathing that really helps me through, and since qualifying as a yoga teacher and regularly practising yoga I don’t feel nearly so daunted at the prospect of singing or teaching new students, maybe a few “butterflies” but that’s normal!
Classes
Vivienne’s classes are currently held approximately once a month, in either the Multipurpose Room (with a lovely view of a wild flower garden) or the Education Suite at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, 20 Dumbreck Rd, Bellahouston, Glasgow G41 5BW. The link for this months class is below, and check Vocayoga on eventbrite.com for upcoming classes. The next classes are planned for 25th August and then 6th October.
In the warmer months of July and August, Vivienne does outdoor Sunday classes in the Scottish Poetry Rose Garden, these are shorter and last an hour.
As well as individual vocal lessons (see her website shawlandsmusicschool.co.uk), Vivienne also offers individual Vocayoga sessions for women and she also teaches Pregnancy and Postnatal Yoga. Contact her direct to book.
